Frontier and American Launch New Routes to the Caribbean

Frontier Airlines and American Airlines recently announced new routes to St. Thomas, St. Lucia and Turks and Caicos.

On Feb. 19, Frontier launched new nonstop flights from Orlando International Airport (MCO) to St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands (STT), flying out twice a week. This new route comes after Frontier launched routes from Orlando to Cancun, Miami, Dominican Republic and Delaware earlier in February.

“We have become the number one airline at MCO based on total nonstop routes available and this spring will see the addition of even more great destinations for consumers to choose from,” said Barry Biffle, president and CEO, Frontier Airlines.

Joseph Boschulte, Commissioner of Tourism for the U.S. Virgin Islands, echoed this sentiment. “We welcome this new service from Orlando to St. Thomas and are grateful for Frontier’s partnership as we continue to prioritize airlift development,” he said. “These new flights offer an affordable and customized option for travel to the Territory during and beyond the peak winter season and help to meet the strong demand from this important market.”

American Airlines’ recent codeshare agreement with JetBlue is bringing more route options from New York (JFK) to St. Lucia (UVF) and Turks and Caicos (PLS). On May 6, American will launch a new Saturday service from JFK to UVF. Then on June 5, they’ll begin service from JFK to PLS.

These new routes are just two of the 33 new domestic and international routes American and JetBlue are collectively introducing. The new domestic routes from American fly out of Boston (BOS) and both New York airports (JFK and LGA) and include destinations like Asheville, North Carolina; Jackson Hole, Wyoming; Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and Key West, Florida.
