Masks Now Optional Onboard Several U.S. Airlines

U.S. airlines are lifting mask mandates after a federal judge in Florida ruled against the mandatory mask mandate for travelers on planes and other forms of public transportation on Monday, April 18th, 2022. The ruling took quick effect with carriers like Delta, United, Southwest and American allowing travelers to fly mask-free just moments after the announcement went public.

The change in regulations means that many airline employees are no longer required to wear masks and will not be enforcing the rule on passengers. However, it’s still widely recommended that travelers carry a mask when flying to abide by masking rules and regulations where they land.

“While we are glad this means many of us get to see your smiling faces, we understand some might have mixed feelings,” said Alaska Airlines. “Please remember to be kind to one another and that wearing a mask while traveling is still an option.”

Airlines where masks are now optional include Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Spirit Airlines, Southwest Airlines and United Airlines.
