Why Italy is a Celebrity Destination Wedding Hot Spot

Natural beauty, historical sites and decedent dishes; there’s a reason so many love stories begin in Italy. Celebrities embrace the country’s charm and can’t get enough of its scenic destination wedding venues, but it’s more than attainable for us commoners to wed there, too. Here are a few celebrity wedding spots in Italy worth considering.

Lake Como

Famous for its laid-back vibe, alpine scenery and amazing wines, Lake Como is a Mediterranean destination wedding hot spot that caught the eye of a number of celebrity couples including everyone’s favorite internet clapback queen Chrissy Teigen and singer John Legend. They tied the knot at Villa Pizzo, a romantic venue famous for its lakeside garden and rich history.

“A Quiet Place” stars Emily Blunt and John Krasinski also said “I do” in this stunning destination with a private weekend ceremony at Villa d’Este, a fabulous lakeside property that once acted as home to local royalty.

Perugia

After 10 years together, “How I Met Your Mother” actor Neil Patrick Harris married his longtime love David Burtka in Perugia, Italy. Where exactly the ceremony was remains under wraps, but celebrity wedding guest Kelly Ripa described the scene as a “very quiet, very private, very family affair,” and made mention of a castle in the city leading us to believe that the venue may have been Castello di Monterone.

Florence

Love them or hate them, there’s no doubt that Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West are a Hollywood power couple. Not ones to say no to a party, Kim and Kanye had a pre-wedding shindig in Paris before jetting to Florence for an extravagant celebration at the ornate Forte di Belvedere. The ceremony consisted of several outfit changes for Kim and the couple exchanged vows in front of a 20-foot-high wall of flowers.

Venice

Why limit the wedding fun to one crazy day when you can have a four-day Venetian extravaganza? That’s exactly what leading man George Clooney and British-Lebanese sweetheart Amal Alamuddin did when they became man and wife in 2014. The duo celebrated their love with a star-studded guest list at the gorgeous Aman Venice Hotel, a 16th-century establishment along the city’s Grand Canal.

Puglia

Just as he suggested in his 2013 “Suit & Tie” lyrics, Justin Timberlake was fixed up to the nines when he wed actress Jessica Biel at the magnificent Borgo Egnazia resort in 2012. While Italy is undoubtedly romantic, the couple admitted they chose the destination because they just can’t get enough of authentic Italian food, a culinary love that was shared with guests as they feasted on affogato and mini caprese salads.

Portofino

Famous for his role as underdog turned hero Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter universe, Matthew Lewis and wife Angela Jones took part in a magical ceremony in fabulous Portofino, Italy. While their venue had no resemblance of the Hogwarts courtyard, it did have a breathtaking green garden that far surpassed the mysterious beauty of the Forbidden Forest.
