Study Reveals Best Time to Book International Flights

In early March, CheapAir.com released its 2023 International Airfare Study, a report that analyzes over 917 million airfares worldwide to reveal the best times of year to book affordable international travel. The company’s 2023 results found that March is the cheapest month to travel internationally, depending on the region. Conversely, December is the most expensive time of year to book foreign travel.

In addition to determining the most and least expensive months to travel, the study also found that on average, Wednesday is the least expensive day to travel whereas Saturday and Sunday are the most costly.

The survey also identified a trend for advisors to keep their eye on — the benefit of booking international travel early. CheapAir.com noted that due to the high demand for international travel and high fuel prices, booking early is absolutely essential for travelers hoping to save some extra cash. As a result, the study recommended travelers book international flights 10 months in advance, regardless of destination. However, the company did note that in some situations, last-minute bookings can also result in a cheaper fare, “While the ‘best’ price is found close to fare publication date, you can also usually get a ‘reasonable’ fare a bit closer to your travel date.”
