Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa Celebrates 60 Years With New Package

On January 23, 1963, Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa made its debut in Maui as the first resort build in Kaanapali, and the property is gearing up to celebrate its 60-year anniversary next month. Set in a prime location next to Pu‘u Keka‘a, the resort invites travelers in with cultural experiences, delicious restaurants, a variety of accommodations and an endless amount of activities to choose from.

In early 2020, the resort completed a $30 million renovation which included a new lobby and bar, a new lounge and reception area and redesigned guestrooms, among other updates. Of the 508 rooms, 83 percent offer ocean views. In celebration of 60 years, Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa is offering a limited edition package guests can book called the Ali‘i Discovery Package.

“We’re excited to commemorate 60 years with our signature Ali‘i Discovery Package and cultural programming that speak to Sheraton Maui’s distinct history, while offering travelers the opportunity to explore Maui more deeply through enriching experiences,” said Tetsuji Yamazaki, general manager of Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa. “The Sheraton Maui ohana looks forward to sharing our special piece of paradise on Kaanapali Beach with the next generation of travelers, as well as continuing traditions with our valued return guests.”

Back when the resort first opened its doors, The Discovery Room was located on Pu‘u Keka‘a, and the room lit up with many performers throughout the years. Now, this area has transitioned to be the resort’s premier 1600-square-foot presidential Ali‘i Suite, and this suite is where guests booking the Ali‘i Discovery Package will stay. In addition to in-suite breakfast and nightly turndown service, guests booking this package also work with a concierge to create an itinerary for the duration of their stay (up to seven nights). One itinerary might look like the following:

  • Day 1: Private 1.5 hour morning surf lesson with Kaanapali Surf Club, followed by Ali‘i deck pool cabana at the resort with lunch and dinner for two at Teppan-yaki Dan
  • Day 2: Private Blue Hawaiian Helicopter Tour with picnic lunches to enjoy at a nearby beach
  • Day 3: Guided Cacao Farm Tour and Chocolate Tasting with Maui Kuia Estate Chocolate, hot stone massages at Spa at Black Rock and sunset F&B experience at The Sandbar, Kaanapali's only lobby bar
  • Day 4: Outrigger canoe paddle cultural tour with We Paddle Maui and a private table for the sunset cliff dive ceremony with pupu (appetizers) and drinks
  • Day 5: Zipline excursion with Kapalua Ziplines and a five-course dinner under the stars on the Ali‘i Suite’s expansive outdoor lanai, complete with a fire knife performance and live entertainment
  • Day 6: Relaxing day at the resort with beach umbrella setup and snorkel gear followed by a farewell two-hour private charter aboard Teralani Sailing Charters, including pupu and an open bar
  • Takeaway box with local snacks and treats for guests to take on their flight home
