I Stayed There: Hotel La Compañia

The Vibe

A historical building that was made into a glamorous and luxurious 5-star hotel. There are three different wings to represent three different eras of Panama's history — French Colonial, Spanish Colonial and Beaux-Arts with the oldest wing dating back to 1688. Hotel La Compañia surrounds a large interior courtyard that makes you forget you’re in the middle of Panama City's historic district, Casco Antiguo. Everything was luxury mixed with old school. I loved all the little touches like the stone wall decorated with old school film cameras on the way to the elevator.

How I Felt

It was modernized old Hollywood glam, and I was living for it! I just wanted to hang out in all of the various public spaces because they were so unique and gorgeous.

The Digs

Modern, luxurious and comfortable. The beds were super comfy, and I had a gorgeous view of the Cathedral Basilica of Santa Maria. Modern touches like a panel next to the bed to control all the lights are little things I really appreciate. The beautiful black and white bathroom was spacious with a privacy glass that you could fog over with the flip of a switch and the bathroom even had Molten Brown toiletries in large refillable bottles. The mini bar with water, soft drinks and beer was also included.

The Agenda

A lazy morning followed by lots of sightseeing of Panama's Old Quarter also known as Casco Viejo which is considered a UNESCO Cultural World Heritage Site.

The Eats

The hotel had some amazing restaurants, but you are also surrounded by tons of good restaurants all within walking distance. Being a short stay, we opted to experience the local restaurants.

Why I Would Go Back

The hotel is stunningly beautiful, and all the staff was amazing! You’re in the heart of Casco Antiguo, surrounded by amazing food, beautiful buildings and a very walkable and adorable neighborhood. My only regret was not staying longer.
