Here’s What You Need to Know about St. Lucia’s New Tourism Tax

A new tourism tax is set to go into effect in St. Lucia beginning on April 1, 2020. The tax was implemented by the St. Lucia Hotel and Tourism Association (SLHTA) and will be charged to guests ages 16 and older upon check-in at their hotel or resort.

The cost of the tax is $3 per night, per guest staying at a hotel with an average daily rate (ADR) below $120; and $6 per night per guest staying at a hotel with an average ADR above $120. The fees will be charged by the accommodation providers, so it will be included in the overall cost of your hotel stay and then collected by SLHTA.

According to SLHTA the tax is “designed to ease the impact of the tax on existing contract arrangements.” The sum of this new fee will act as revenue for the Tourism Authority for the next financial year.
