Four Incredible Hiking Trails In Europe

Europe offers some of the most stunning hiking trails in the world. From the snow-capped mountains of Norway to the lush green forests of Scotland, there are plenty of world-class hiking trails with varying difficulties, so there’s something for every level of experience.

As a travel advisor, it’s important to be aware of client preferences ahead of time in order to pick from the vast number of stunning trails across the continent. To aid in this process, let’s explore four of the top hiking trails in Europe.

Trolltunga, Norway

Scandinavia has numerous wonderful sites to see, but the Trolltunga trail in Norway is one of the best. The highlight of this hike is the stunning Trolltunga rock formation – a ledge that juts out from the mountains around 700 metres above the ground. Although this is a difficult route aimed at experienced hikers, anyone who is able to embark on the challenge will be greatly rewarded with unforgettable, breathtaking views.

Tour du Mont Blanc, France, Italy and Switzerland

This incredible trail takes hikers through France, Italy and Switzerland on a quest to experience the famous Mont Blanc. This is another challenging hike, with its lengthy route and high ascension which established its reputation as one of the most difficult across the whole of Europe. Not to worry though, as anyone brave enough to undertake the challenge will be well compensated with astonishing views across the Alps and gorgeous scenery along the way.

The West Highland Way, Scotland

A slightly less challenging venture, the West Highland Way takes hikers through some of the most beautiful landscapes in the majestic country of Scotland. The route begins in Milngavie and ends in Fort William, guiding hikers across the rugged highlands and the famous mountain of Ben Nevis.

Encompassing 154km in total, it’s a long-distance walk accompanied by significant elevation levels due to the uneven landscapes of the highlands. With these two things considered, the West Highland Way is a route that requires some pre-existing experience. Fortunately, this trail also includes a few B&Bs and hostels along the way, making it a great option for those looking to avoid camping.

Plitvice, Croatia

Any travelers looking to embark on their first hiking holiday should consider Plitvice National Park. This gorgeous forest reserve has a range of trails to offer, with each leading hikers to sixteen interconnected lakes. The lakes appear to be each their own shade of blue, melding together beneath a range of waterfalls to create a stunning landscape. One of these routes is the perfect option for those looking for more of a relaxing hike while still getting to experience gorgeous scenery.

When recommending any hiking trails to your travelers, it’s important to consider their skill level and fitness. Many of these trails are challenging and should only be attempted by experienced hikers, as otherwise travelers could end up too exhausted to continue or even injure themselves. It’s also important to ensure travelers have the proper equipment for the hike, so careful planning and preparation are essential in order to ensure safety on these unforgettable trails.
