Swiss cruise line Explora Journeys is inviting travelers to find inspiration in the mystical powers of the sea with its new Ocean Wellness concept. The program will roll out on the suppliers’ EXPLORA I ship and will feature a variety of what it calls, “highly effective, restorative experiences far removed from urban noise and the always-on digital culture,” to help travelers slow down, prioritize their well-being and cultivate a sense of calm and centeredness.
To some, the concept may sound a bit ‘woo-woo’, but there are compelling theories that point toward the healing power that the ocean has over the human mind, body and spirit. For example, Explora Journeys cites a neuroscience study that claims that the ocean can calm the mind, revitalize the body and even boost immune function. This newfound sense of ultimate relaxation is something that the cruise line is dubbing an “Ocean State of Mind”.
“The philosophy behind Ocean Wellness is deeply rooted in Explora Journeys’ origins,” said Julanda Marais, senior lead of spa operations for Explora Journeys. “We’ve long understood the powerful effect of water and waves on body, mind and soul. This is the inspiration for Ocean Wellness. We want to give our guests a feeling of refined simplicity, relaxed luxury and complete mental and physical replenishment.”
The Ocean Wellness concept focuses on three different areas — Ocean Wellness — The Spa, Ocean Wellness — Fitness and Ocean Wellness — Wellbeing. Described as, “a place to soothe and heal, or simply a haven for pampering, Ocean Wellness — The Spa mirrors the gentle, hypnotic effect of the ocean, allowing the pressures of daily life to recede.” The Spa accounts for 7,500 square feet of EXPLORA I and features 11 treatment rooms, a beauty studio and a ‘sensorial therapeutic circuit’ where guests can experiment with thermal wellness with a hydrotherapy pool, a steam room, a salt cave and more. On the heart-pumping side of things, Ocean Wellness — Fitness believes that a healthy body leads to a healthy mind. To help get travelers moving, Ocean Wellness — Fitness paired with Technogym to create an incredible onboard wellness and fitness experience for guests. Travelers will find a fitness center, fitness studio, a running track, sports court, options for open-air workouts and in-suite fitness. Similar to the fitness vein, Ocean Wellness — Wellbeing brings guests a variety of yoga programs to choose from. Whether they want to get pumped up, wind down or look within, travelers are sure to find the perfect program for them.
