Cancun International Airport Offering COVID-19 Testing

The Cancun International Airport (CUN) is now offering COVID-19 testing to passengers who need to present a negative COVID-19 test result to gain entry into the U.S. or Canada.

In a Jan. 27 email, John Nedeau, President and CEO Mexico DMC, shared that specialized mobile lab units have been hired by the airport to offer antigen tests at a cost to passengers, with 10 locations between terminals 2, 3 and 4. In his email, Nedeau also said that if a passenger’s test at the airport comes back positive for COVID-19, “there are four designated hotels near the airport where you can choose to quarantine at your own expense.”

The airport's website has more details on the mobile testing units:

• Mobile units are open from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm
• It takes approximately 30 minutes to get the results
• Antigen test only
• The test costs approximately $290.00 pesos/$14.00 U.S. dollars per antigen test
• No PCR test available
• Opening hours, locations, availability and price may change without notice

The airport’s website clarifies that getting tested at a mobile unit should be a last resort for travelers who were not able to get a test in advance or have lost their test results if they were tested at their resort. Many resorts in Cancun are now offering on-site COVID-19 testing to guests, including AMResorts, Iberostar Hotels & Resorts, Sandos Hotels & Resorts, La Coleccion Resorts and more. The Quintana Roo state government has also compiled a list of labs that are offering testing.
