7 Hawaii Hotel Updates You Need to Know for 2022

Hawaii has not slowed down when it comes to hotel upgrades and enhancements. There are many exciting improvements coming to the islands’ properties in 2022. Here are seven big ones, with even more on the way.

  1. Alohilani Resort (Oahu) announced on January 1, 2022 that the property will now be utilizing 100% renewable electricity as certified by Green-e® Energy, one of the leading independent certification and verification programs for renewable energy in the U.S. This renewable-energy purchase commitment covers the entirety of the property’s energy consumption, meaning that the meetings and conferences held there will be Green-e® certified.
  2. Fairmont Kea Lani (Maui) resort will begin its hoomaka hou (“new beginning”) multimillion-dollar transformation of its suites and villas collection in March. Each of the resort’s 413 one-bedroom suites and 37 two-story villas will be entirely reimagined from top to bottom, creating a luxurious space evoking stories of Maui’s rich cultural heritage. The resort’s curated furnishings, touchpoints and amenities will “ensure every guest feels genuinely cared for in an exquisitely designed space.”
  3. Four Seasons Resort Lanai (Lanai) will welcome a new observatory this winter. Working with the Imiloa Astronomy Center of Hawaii, the resort’s Love Lanai Cultural Advisors are developing a program spotlighting the history of Pacific voyaging, native Hawaiian traditions, traditional wayfinding methodology, and an overview of astronomy as it relates to Hawaii and parallels with Hawaiian culture. Guests can participate in the weekly small-group program, which utilizes a state-of-the-art, fully automated single-meter class telescope observatory system.
  4. Halekulani (Oahu) welcomed guests back in October 2021 after over a year of renovations. The hotel has now reopened its iconic poolside restaurant, House Without A Key at Halekulani. The restaurant is now open nightly, and features live Hawaiian music with hula performances, small bites and signature cocktails.
  5. Hanalei Colony Resort’s new Hale Hoomaha (Kauai) or “House of Relaxation” is nearing completion. The two-story venue includes a new pool and expanded gazebo designed to offer plenty of sun and shade, new furniture, two new grills and tropical landscaping, creating a relaxing refuge. On the second level, guests will find an expansive multi-use hospitality suite with a wet bar and other amenities, offering another spot to mingle and entertain. With the resort’s new late checkout program in place, Hale Hoomaha will also offer guests a comfortable space to relax, refresh and make the most of their departure day from Kauai before heading home.
  6. Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort (Kauai) will debut its brand-new waterfront Luau Event Pavilion this winter as one of the largest venues of its kind on island.
  7. Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort and Spa (Oahu) debuted its multimillion-dollar comprehensive reimagination in August, which includes a new single-acre pool and amenity deck with two pools, and a new open-air restaurant overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The beachfront resort also offers completely refreshed guestrooms and suites with private balconies, a modernized open-air lobby, its Royal Kaila Spa and culturally focused guest programming.
