And just like that, Q1 has flown by. While we can’t cover all the action, here are 10 resort updates and openings that you should have your eye on in 2022.

Mexico

Secrets® Moxché Playa del Carmen

The Caribbean

Rock House, Turks and Caicos

A touch of Europe is making its way to the Caribbean with Rock House, a resort and residential ‘vision’ that took inspiration from the south of France, Capri and the Mediterranean coast. The property is situated upon 14 acres of oceanfront land and features a stunning private beach complete with a beach club that extends 100 feet into the ocean. Travelers can hop on a boat and explore the beauty of the Caribbean islands, soak up the sun on one of the resorts’ cozy daybeds or spend the day relaxing from inside one of Rock House’s modernly furnished rooms.

Stays at this dreamy property will kick-off beginning on May 1st, 2022.

Margaritaville Beach Villa Resort, Ambergris Caye, Belize

Often considered an honorary member of the West Indies, we’re counting the highly anticipated Margaritaville Beach Villa Resort in Belize as one of the newest additions to the region. Sharing its namesake with Jimmy Buffet’s hit song, Margaritaville Beach Villa Resort instantly transports visitors to their own personal version of paradise with its off-the-beaten-path location, first-class service and opportunities for ultimate relaxation.

On the flip side, those looking for a more active vacation will love all the opportunities for excitement that this resort provides. Explore tropical nature parks, ancient Mayan caves, the gorgeous Caribbean Sea and more when Margaritaville Beach Villa Resort, Belize opens in winter 2022.

Domestic

Fairmont Kea Lani

Maui’s Fairmont Kea Lani embarked on a multi-million-dollar transformation when it broke ground on some major renovations in March of 2022. Phase one of the project focuses on the property’s 413 one-bedroom suites and 37 two-story villas which will be completely redesigned to incorporate modern technology and curated furnishings that pay homage to the island’s vibrant cultural heritage.

Phase two of the renovation is slated to begin in August 2022 and will focus on the Grand Entrance and the Lobby. Plans for these sections of the hotel include the addition of dramatic water features, immersive gardens, an Interactive Cultural Center, a new food and beverage venue and more.

The project is expected to wrap in late April 2023.

Hokupa’a Tower at the Westin Maui Resort & Spa

The ‘crown jewel’ of a three-year, $120 million renovation, the Westin Maui Resort & Spa is preparing to unveil the newly updated Hokupa’a Tower. Formerly known as ‘Beach Tower’, Hookup’a Tower is home to the most modern rooms throughout the Westin Maui property where travelers can enjoy unlimited access to the Lanai, an exclusive lounge serving breakfast in the a.m. and cocktails in the p.m. alongside cultural programming. Oh, and there’s an infinity-edge pool, too.

Also included in the renovation was the Heavenly Spa which now features a new infrared sauna, an updated waiting room, lounges and lockers and a private section for visitors staying in Hokupa’a Tower. Of course, what renovation would be complete without food? Hokupa’a Tower now features Waicoco, an eatery headed by James Beard-nominated Chef, Chris Kajioka.

Asia

FILA House Shanghai

Hyatt and South Korean sportswear brand Fila are teaming up to create FILA House Shanghai, the first-ever FILA-branded hotel in the world. The one-of-a-kind hotel is expected to open its doors in 2024 and will be located in ANTA’s headquarters in China’s West Hongqiao Business District where it will be joined by new offices, shops, bars and restaurants.

Plans for the hotel’s interior are still under wraps, but, if the building’s exterior gives us any clues it seems travelers can expect futuristic vibes to mark FILA’s first endeavor in the lifestyle hotel space.

Europe

Those planning a vacation across the pond will be happy to discover that Hilton is launching a stylish new hotel in The Big Smoke.
